Overall a great worship time, especially towards the end. After Pastor Steve preached a very powerful sermon from Acts 6, speaking to the MINISTRY of the church, we went into a time of prayer, followed by a contemplative version of Revelation Song sung by one of our High School youth. I chose a simple arrangement, accompanied by only an acoustic guitar and cajon. There are certain times in corporate worship when I get goosebumps, and hearing her voice along with the congregation was one of those moments.

WE had a pretty incredible worship yesterday morning. It was one of those times where we struggled during practice, but then everything clicked as the room started filling up and the Holy Spirit entered the scene.

One thing that I did different yesterday was deciding NOT to show a video. Usually we sing a congregational song during the offering, then we show a video, then the sermon begins. As I was preparing for worship this past week, I realized that the song ‘All Who Are Thirsty‘ fit so well as an intro into the sermon, that it would be counterproductive to show the video.

The other thing that I did differently, was lead the church in singing our last song with the entire band. Normally I conclude the teaching time as we prepare for communion with a simple song arrangement played on just my acoustic guitar, and normally this sets a great mood/atmosphere going into communion. Since I was preaching on life, and the sermon ended with a lot of excitement, I decided to include the entire band in leading the song ‘Bones‘ written by the Edge-Kingsland worship team. The song only has 2 lines, ‘Holy Spirit come, breathe life into these bones, Holy Spirit come, breathe life into my heart,’ which repeat over and over as the song builds and then comes back down. It was a very powerful way to end a sermon titled, ‘The Message of Life,’ which stressed the amazing love that Jesus has for us, and how life in Jesus is the only real true life.

Time To Get Up…

Wake up, it’s time for church. If you had any experience going to church when you were a kid, you heard your mom say, or yell, that many times. Today we kicked off morning services at Foundation Community Church and we no longer can sleep in having been meeting in the evenings prior to the new year. But yet, what happens now as an adult when you can make your own choices? What’s the next reason to justify you need a couple more hours sleep…

Man, it was a late night last night.

I have been going every week for the last _____ weeks. Everyone needs a break every once in awhile right.

I won’t have time to make it from church to the kids soccer game.

The football game starts at 1:00 and this is the biggest game of the year.

So we do what we want to do and we put God on hold. We often don’t stay up for God late on a Saturday night and he has a plan for us to play in the biggest game of all yet we don’t even suit up and walk onto the field. This morning I thought of what choices I made in my past and the feeling that I had this morning loading in for service. I was tired but energized. Through my growth in faith, my alarm goes off no matter how late the night before and the worldly games can wait for kick off time.

I need to wake up for God.

I was originally planning on ending the service with 10,000 Reasons by Matt Redman, but while we were praying I felt as if Jesus Paid It All fit a whole lot better based on the sermon and the prayers. So when the prayers were over, I announced to the congregation that there was a last second change and that the words would not be on the screen. IT WENT GREAT! (except that I forgot the words to verse 3, ha!) This is a very familiar song for our church and you could really hear people singing very loudly. A great moment of worship to start the New Year!
