O Jesus
Another from last year’s archives…
Jesus, my precious Jesus. I watched as they took you away, as they spit upon you, as they mocked you. My eyes couldn’t bear to look as they stripped you naked and beat you down. How could you possibly carry that heavy piece of wood on your back for so many miles, it was everything I could do to not run over and help you carry it.
O Jesus, my precious Jesus. I can hardly stand the sight of you hanging on that tree, the rough wood taking off flesh that is not even there as you attempt to breathe just one more time. As blood pools at the base of the cross. As your sunken in eyes stare into mine.
O Jesus. How could they do this to you? Do they not know who you are? What are am I going to do without you here? How can I possibly go on living?
On this mountain, the Lord of Heaven will spread a wonderful feast for all the people of the world. There He will remove the cloud of doom, the shadown of death that hangs over the earth. Death is swallowed up in victory forever! The sovereign Lord will wipe away all tears. He will remove all insults and mockery. This is our God. Let us rejoice in the salvation He brings!
Is. 25: 6-9 (NLT)
‘Grief, while you are grieving, lasts forever. But under God, forever is a day. Weeping my child, may last through the night. But joy cometh with the sunrise – and then your mourning shall be dancing, and gladness shall be the robe around you. Wait. (Walter Wangerin, Jr.)’
Wait, people of Faith. Joy shall come in the morning…
Pastor Chris.
One Last Meal
From the archives:
This week has been quite the journey for Jesus. He’s been hailed as King, flipped over tables in the temple, cursed a fig tree, and now is having His ‘last supper’ with His followers. Most often times we hear of a last meal when a criminal is about to be executed – they will request one ‘last meal’ before they die, consisting of most any food they would want.
Jesus’ ‘last meal’ was quite different. Knowing He was going to be executed, Jesus doesn’t ask for a big fancy dinner, but rather gives US something instead – His blood. His blood that would be poured out on the cross as the ultimate sacrifice. THIS sacrifice is the new covenant that Jesus makes with His people.
And (Jesus) took a cup of wine and gave thanks to God for it. He gave it to (His disciples) and said, ‘Each of you drink from it, for this is my blood, which confirms the new covenant between God and His people. It is poured out as a sacrifice to forgive the sins of many.’
Mt. 26: 27-28
The old covenants were no longer needed. God’s only Son, on the cross, blood shed, IT IS FINISHED.
See you on Calvary tomorrow.
Pastor Chris.
The Ins and Outs of Holy Week
Reblogged from With ONE Voice:
It has been written and it has been said that Palm Sunday is the ‘gateway to Holy Week.’ But now that Palm Sunday is done and gone, what exactly is Holy Week? What makes this week between Palm Sunday and Easter so special and so Holy?
The answer lies in the discourse that Jesus had with His disciples just before He entered into Jerusalem:
